Hope for Denver’s first park

Just northeast of downtown Denver, Colorado, Five Points is one of the city’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods. It’s also home to Denver’s first public park, Mestizo-Curtis Park.
Today, residents of Five Points are rallying to revive the underutilized park, which takes its name, Mestizo, from the mix of cultures and ethnicities who live nearby.
In the short film above, community member and local grandmother Geraldolyn Horton-Harris shares the story of the park’s troubled past—as well as the plan to turn it into a place that Five Points can be proud of.
