Finance Analyst (Salt Lake City, UT; Charlotte, NC; St. Paul, MN)

Position Overview:
The Trust for Public Land receives funding from a variety of public and private sources. This position is responsible for a wide variety of finance and accounting functions for recording and managing these funds. This position will monitor and manage all phases of grants and contracts. He or she will monitor the awards, input them into our expense fund matching system, analyze the awards in the context of other funds, prepare the invoices/reports, and follow-up on receivables.

This person will be a collaborative team member who will proactively and effectively work with a broad range of stakeholders, including staff on the finance, legal, and programmatic teams. We value those candidates displaying a customer service philosophy and a proactive problem-solving approach, superb communication skills and the ability analyze in a highly organized manner. This is a high-touch position that requires someone who enjoys interacting with, providing guidance to, and working collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization. The perfect person for this role will be someone who enjoys working collaboratively, loves improving systems/processes, and who is strong with spreadsheets, contracts/agreements, and databases.


Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete monthly close responsibilities including monthly and project reporting;
  • Setup Funds in the finance system with all conditions/restrictions for grants and in line with other funding sources for the given project/programs;
  • Assist Finance Directors in ensuring that all contract awards are reflected in the Expense Funding Matching process and help them optimize revenue sources;
  • Update grant reporting for both internal and external audiences;
  • Provide process improvement and ad hoc analysis projects;
  • Assist in other general accounting and finance functions as needed.
  • Prepare all documentation for requesting payments on grants and contracts;
  • Setup an invoicing schedule and manage timing on all current grants

Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills are required, as is the ability to work cooperatively with different personalities and financial aptitudes across the organization.
  • Analytical and organizational skills are required, as are strong attention to detail, good recordkeeping, responsible time management, and the ability to juggle many projects and deadlines at once.
  • Comprehensive experience with Excel is essential (i.e. pivot tables, vlookups, and manipulating data from multiple sources to identify trends and build reports) and comfort with large datasets.
  • Experienced computer user, including proficiency with financial systems and multi-dimensional databases.
  • Ability to prioritize, time manage and multi-task with limited supervision and sometimes under time pressure;
  • A strong ability to work and think independently and maintain a questioning mind.
  • Ability to problem solve and come up with strategies to improve processes and systems.
  • Self-starter with a can-do attitude and a team player;
  • Ability to keep confidential information.
