This Park Bench Chat was hosted by Trust for Public Land and Next City and featured a conversation between 10-Minute Walk champions Mayor Mattie Parker of Fort Worth, TX, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, LA, and College of Charleston Professors Dr. Morgan Hughey, and Dr. Kendra Stewart. During our conversation, TPL and the College of Charleston unveiled their nationwide policy scan to help city leaders address and reduce the outdoor equity gap that affects more than 100 million people—including 28 million children—who do not have a park within a 10-minute walk from home. Our panel also explored a variety of park solutions to address park access gaps and leverage parks to create healthy, thriving, equitable cities.
