Ormond Beach Voters Favor Beachfront Park

Voters in Ormond Beach strongly favor approval of a $5 million bond for a new beachfront park according to the results of a new poll released today by The Trust for Public Land (TPL).

The poll showed that Ormond voters would favor the bond by a margin of 63 percent to only 32 percent against it, including 30 percent of the voters who said they would definitely vote in favor of funding for new park. The telephone poll of 300 voters likely to vote in the August primary election in Ormond Beach was taken April 19 and 20 and has a margin of error of 5.66 percent. Public Opinions Strategies conducted the poll for the city and TPL.

“These results show that voters in Ormond Beach strongly support the city’s efforts to seize this unique opportunity to create a new beachfront park,” said Will Abberger, Director of TPL’s Conservation Finance program, which works with local communities across the country to create funding for local open space protection.

“Across the country, time and again, we’ve seen that voters value protecting local places that are important to them and they’re willing to spend money to do that. These results are similar to what we’ve seen in other communities throughout Florida and across the nation and show that voters in Ormond Beach understand now is the time to act to create parks for the future,” said Abberger.

The property proposed for the new beachfront park is 4-acres of vacant land located across A1A from the Olive Garden and Bonefish Grill at 839 South Atlantic Avenue.

TPL is a national, nonprofit land conservation organization that conserves land for people to enjoy as parks, gardens, historic sites, rural lands, and other natural places. Since 1972, TPL has completed 4,500 projects in 47 states, protecting 2.8 million acres.
