Tovrea Castle
Known locally as “the wedding cake,” Tovrea Castle is a Phoenix landmark. Built as a hotel in 1929, the three-story, hilltop structure sits in the midst of the city, surrounded by more than 500 stately saguaro cactuses and other desert vegetation. The city purchased the castle in 1993, with plans to restore both the castle and the surrounding Carraro Cactus Garden. In April 2002, TPL helped the city protect an additional four acres adjacent to the castle, preventing development at the edge of this picturesque desert landscape.
