Eliot Merrill

Eliot P.S. Merrill is a Managing Director and Head of Carlyle Global Partners at the Carlyle Group and is based in New York. Eliot has been a private equity investor for over 25 years at both Carlyle (22 years) and Freeman Spogli (4 years). Prior to Freeman Spogli, Eliot spent time at an investment bank (Dillon Read) and selling sails for boats at Doyle Sailmakers. Carlyle Global Partners seeks to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns on significant sums of capital over a longer timeframe than typical private equity funds, thereby creating substantial longer-term appreciation. Eliot has served on numerous Carlyle company boards and currently is a member of the board of directors at TCW Group, Medforth Global Healthcare Education Group, TAMKO Building Products, NEP Group, Inc., Asplundh Tree Expert, Sciens, and Hyundai Glovis. Eliot graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and resides with his wife, 2 daughters and dogs in Brooklyn, NY.

Eliot enjoys as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors and hopes that he can help TPL bring that experience to more people through TPL’s work in both urban and rural communities to provide better access to fresh air and open space.
