Joan Walne
Joan Walne, a Colorado native, arrived in Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University and graduated in 1976. Upon her marriage to Alan Walne, Dallas and more specifically, Lake Highlands, became home. Along with their son and daughter, the Walne family became integrally involved in all things Lake Highlands. Joan chaired/served on task forces, building committees, Young Life leadership, was PTA president at multiple schools as well as President of the Lake Highlands Women’s League. Their love for their neighborhood spread to the city at large and Joan enjoyed civic involvement with the Dallas Zoo, Children’s Medical Center, the Junior League of Dallas, the Dallas Arboretum, Parkland Hospital, Fair Park, Preservation Dallas and the Dallas Historical Society. She was honored to serve on the Dallas Park and Recreation Board for nine years and concluded her service there as board Vice President and President.
Mrs. Walne most recently served at the Board Chair for the Dallas Zoo and continues on their executive committee. She currently serves as Board Chair of Kershaw’s Challenge, a foundation that meets the needs of underserved youth and families. When not fulfilling her passion for public service, Joan enjoys spending time with her family which includes her beloved seven grandchildren.
