Raúl de Brigard

Raúl de Brigard lives in Higganum and New York City, and has degrees from Harvard and UCLA in architecture and land planning. Since his arrival in Connecticut some 50 years ago he has been active in town affairs, including many years as chair of the Planning & Zoning and Conservation Commissions. He worked at Northeast Utilities in its Hydroelectric and Land Management and Siting departments where he oversaw the management of open space, including the Wildlife Management areas cooperatively operated with the CT Department of Environmental Protection, as well as Candlewood Lake. As a Co-Chair of the Connecticut Rivers Advisory Commission he spearheaded several river protection bills in CT. He is currently Honorary Trustee of the Connecticut River Watershed Council, and a member of the Connecticut River Gateway Commission. Raúl is also the Haddam representative on the Lower Connecticut River Valley Regional Planning Committee, and President of the Haddam’s Brainerd Memorial Library. He is one of three founders of the Connecticut Yankee Preservation Project, an alliance of conservation groups formed to acquire the 586-acre largely forested track that was originally the site of the CY nuclear plant on the Connecticut River. Having retired from Northeast Utilities (now Eversource) his principal business interests are now those related to his family in Central America. Given his life-long interest in land conservation, he feels honored to be of service to TPL on its CT Board. (Member since 2003)
