Newest Fitness Zone® Opens in Sylmar
People who live in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles will be able to exercise on the latest free Fitness Zone® installation, which opened today at El Cariso Regional Park in Sylmar, The Trust for Public Land (TPL), announced today. The $45,000 cost was paid with a combination of funds from MetLife Foundation, the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavky, and the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department.
The exercise area includes nine pieces of easy to use outdoor gym equipment, along with bilingual health and fitness information panels. The equipment is durable and suitable for ages 13 and up.
“This is the 29th fitness zone we’ve completed in Los Angeles and they give residents in the parks where they are located an important place to exercise and improve their health,” said Sam Hodder, California State Director for TPL.
MetLife Foundation’s investment has allowed us to bring Fitness Zone installations to a variety of Los Angeles area parks – from smaller parks in low-income neighborhoods to larger regional parks visited by many. Six Fitness Zone exercise areas supported by the MetLife Foundation grant have been installed, including El Cariso in Sylmar.
“Accessible places for exercise and recreation are vital to the health and well-being of communities,” said Dennis White, president and CEO of MetLife Foundation. “We are pleased to join TPL, L.A. County Parks, and the Sylmar community in bringing this new Fitness Zone to El Cariso Regional Park.”
El Cariso Regional Park is located at 13100 Hubbard Street, near the corner of Hubbard and Simshaw streets in Sylmar.
