Canco Woods
For decades, this 13-acre wooded urban oasis in Portland’s Back Cove neighborhood has been used by Portland residents with the landowner’s consent. Known as Canco Woods, this neighborhood park is popular with joggers, dog-walkers, mountain bikers, cross-country skiers, and children who build forts and explore the woods. Earlier this year, when a group of neighbors discovered the property was for sale, they formed the Friends of Canco Woods, hoping to conserve this urban wild space. In June 2012, The Trust for Public Land reached an agreement with the land owner to hold the land off the market while fundraising to purchase the property.
In December 2012 we successfuly protected this wooded area near the heart of Portland which will also serve as a key link to existing trails to the greater Portland trail network.
