Chicago Neighborhood Parks
In Chicago, 98% of residents live within a ten-minute walk of a park. The Trust for Public Land partners with the Chicago Park District and local community groups to add amenities that will attract new users. At Palmisano Park, in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood, The Trust for Public Land partnered with The North Face to host community workshops where youth and their families designed a series of climbing boulders which were installed in September of 2019. In the North Lawndale neighborhood, through its partnership with L.L. Bean, The Trust for Public Land is supporting the Douglass 18 mini golf project. After studying with scientists from the Lincoln Park Zoo and architects from the University of Illinois at Chicago and Open Architects Chicago, local youth designed mini-golf obstacles based on birds and bird habitat. When complete, Douglass 18 will be run as a youth-led business.
