Corralitas Red Car
This strip of rich woodland is an unexpected treasure in the densely populated Los Angeles suburb of Silver Lake-Elysian Valley. The mile-long property is the legacy of the Pacific Electric Red Car Trolley, which operated here until 1955. Since then, nature has reclaimed the land, and the diverse community has put it to use as a green space where families can gather, exercise, walk kids to adjacent schools, and play safely-often difficult in an area divided by major freeways.
For years, locals have asked for the Red Car property to be converted into a real park. Adding the land to the park system would protect and improve an invaluable resource in a crowded area of the city where green space is scarce. The Trust for Public Land is working with dedicated neighbors and private supporters to make it happen.
