Highland Farm
Less than nine miles from the Atlantic Ocean, Highland Farm offers panoramic views of the upper reaches of the tidal York River and its pristine salt marshes. Behind the 151-acre farm, unbroken forests stretch for miles to the summit of Mount Agamenticus and beyond.
In 2008, a plan emerged to subdivide Highland Farm into 37 housing lots. Partnering with the York Land Trust and other groups, TPL secured a purchase option on the farm and raised more than $3 million to protect it. The conservation effort preserved habitat for a rich diversity of threatened and endangered species and protected the water quality of Boulter Pond, a drinking water source for thousands of people.
