Janet Johnson Memorial WMA
The Trust for Public Land recently protected 118 acres as an addition to the Janet Johnson Memorial Wildlife Management Area located in Chisago County. The protected property consists of wetland and forested habitat, and also contains about 35 acres of agricultural land that will be restored to prairie. It will be primarily managed for migratory waterfowl, deer, and turkey habitat. Located within the city limits of North Branch, this new publically accessible property will provide quality outdoor recreation and hunting opportunities for both nearby residents and for millions of Twin Cities’ residents. This project is the most recent success of our Metro Big Rivers program, a partnership with several conservation organizations working to permanently protect high-quality habitat along the Mississippi, Minnesota, and St. Croix rivers and their tributaries in the greater Twin Cities metropolitan area. Funding for this project was provided by the Outdoor Heritage Fund as recommended by the Lessard- Sams Outdoor Heritage Council.
