Little Cannon AMA
The Trust for Public Land protected 77 acres of land and conveyed it to the Minnesota DNR as the Little Cannon Aquatic Management Area (AMA). Bisected by the Little Cannon River, a DNR designated trout steam, this newly created AMA is a mix of river shoreline, mature forest, and agricultural fields that will be converted back to their natural habitat. The acquisition of this land not only creates angler access and an opportunity for streambank restoration, it is the first unit of public land in an area that has none. Located in the picturesque Sogn Valley in Goodhue County, this permanently protected land provides public access opportunities, it will improve water quality of the watershed, and provides opportunities for quality outdoor recreation activities.
The acquisition was funded by the Outdoor Heritage Fund. The Trust for Public Land helped lead the campaign to establish the Outdoor Heritage Fund as part of the 2008 Legacy Referendum that provides dedicated sales tax funding for the environment.
