Murray Ridge/Southwest Beaverton Park

Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District was one of the first local park providers to join The Intertwine, and their purchase of 8.5 acres of undeveloped land with the help of The Trust for Public Land, Metro and the city Beaverton is a testament to the power of the partnerships at the heart of The Intertwine.

Beaverton has built a national reputation as a city with a remarkable quality of life (The safest city in the Pacific Northwest for three consecutive years, one of the Best Places to Raise Kids in America by BusinessWeek magazine, one of the Top 100 Best Places to Live in America by Money magazine, recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Green Power Community and designated as a Bronze Award Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists).

So when a rare patch of natural woodland in a residential area with very little public park land came on the market they immediately looked for ways to save it as a community resource. Unable to fund the purchase from the city budget, they turned to TPL for help. In the end, four Intertwine Alliance partners: The City of Beaverton, Metro, THPRD and TPL all worked to fund the purchase of the property, which was transferred into the city’s ownership in January 2010. Still to be named, the new park will be an outstanding addition to an already exemplary system.
