Sanders Farm, St. Helena Island
The 160-acre Sanders Farm has been farmed by the same family for more than 100 years. Protected by TPL in June 2007, this project provided the first visible protection of agricultural land on the island and offers a model for other conservation-minded farmers in the area. The project helps protect the surrounding Gullah Geechee community, rural vistas, and wetlands. Funding was provided by the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program, South Carolina’s Conservation Bank, and Beaufort County’s Rural and Critical Lands Program.
