Stowe Mountain

Lying in the Mahoosuc Mountains, one of New England’s premier hiking areas, the Stowe Mountain property abuts 33,000 acres of state conservation lands and includes four miles of the recently constructed Grafton Loop Trail. But the property is located only five miles from one of New England’s most popular year round skiing and golf resorts and has been under pressure from second-home development. In January 2010, at the request of Maine’s Bureau of Parks & Lands, TPL facilitated the purchase of a conservation easement on the 3,363 property—part of a larger effort by TPL and its partners to protect prime recreation lands across the Mahoosuc Mountain region.
