Sulphur Creek Ranch
Partnering with landowners, local officials, and the U. S. Forest Service, TPL has worked for more than a decade to protect wild and scenic river corridors in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness Area. In 2005, TPL protected the 160-acre Sulphur Creek Ranch, including much of Sulphur Creek, in the headwaters of the Middle Fork Salmon River drainage. Sulphur Creek provides important spawning grounds for endangered Chinook salmon, summer steelhead, and bull trout, as well as west slope cutthroat trout. The property’s riparian habitat and meadowlands are home to one of the largest elk herds in the country, as well as the endangered gray wolf. Preservation of Sulphur Creek Ranch protects sensitive habitat and provide recreational opportunities in a primitive setting.
