Tater Hill
The Tater Hill Lake Basin in the Northern Peaks of North Carolina protects a rare bog ecosystem, home to an array of endangered and threatened plant species. When development threatened Tater Hill, the state’s Natural Heritage Program identified it as a top conservation priority. TPL joined the state’s Natural Heritage Trust, the High Country Conservancy, and Appalachian State University in helping to protect the land. The site will be managed as an ecological research preserve. In January 2002, TPL purchased an additional 239 acres for addition to the preserve.
