Within a half-hour’s drive of St. Paul, the 475-acre site known as Vermillion Empire View offers a host of opportunities for outdoor recreation. One of the largest undeveloped tracts remaining in central Dakota County, the site includes a stretch of the Vermillion River and a prime trout stream. Once a family farm, the former land owners wanted to keep the land open and accessible to the public. In November 2005, after a multi-year collaborative effort TPL acquired the land and conveyed it to the state’s Department of Nature Resources for long-term stewardship.
Funding for this project was provided by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR).
