National Walk to a Park Day is observed each year on October 10. This is an opportunity to explore your local park. Experience the breeze, savor the autumn weather, meet your neighbors, play with your children, and embrace all the benefits green spaces bring to our communities.
Access to the outdoors —close to where people live, in both urban and rural areas—is crucial for our happiness, health, and overall well-being. That’s why Trust for Public Land is dedicated to putting a park within a 10-minute walk of every person in the United States.
In 2024, hundreds of people showed their love and appreciation for their favorite neighborhood green space in honor of National Walk to a Park Day. Across the United States, TPL supporters hopped, skipped, rolled, strolled, and jogged to public parks and snapped a pic. The photos they uploaded unlocked a $25,000 donation from Smartwool, so we can put more parks in reach of more people.
Parks are more than just green spaces. They provide a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle, a place to connect with nature, and a venue for recreation and relaxation. Yet one in three Americans doesn’t have access to a park within a 10-minute walk of home.
Like TPL, Smartwool believes that time spent outside is invaluable, restorative, and essential for everyone. That’s why we’re teaming up to provide more people with places to play, exercise, unplug, and connect with their community. Every photo uploaded by National Walk to a Park Day 2024 unlocked a $5 donation from Smartwool up to $25,000.
