Northern Sierra Nevada
The Sierra Nevada is a mountain playground for millions of Californians, encompassing rich biodiversity, watershed, and wildlife habitat. The Sierra also delivers clean drinking water to 60 percent of Californians and its forests represent remarkable potential for carbon sequestration. But a tripling in population over the last 30 years, coupled with climate-related changes, threatens to drastically alter the landscape. To address these threats, TPL is working to close the Sierra checkerboard, protect the five primary river corridors of the Northern Sierra (American, Little Truckee, Yuba, Feather, and Rubicon), and to conserve the contiguous undeveloped oak woodland belt of the Bear Yuba watershed
