J.T. Horn

J.T. Horn is Director of the National Trails Initiative at The Trust for Public Land (TPL) where he has worked since 2007. He serves on the national leadership team that oversees implementation of TPL’s 5-year strategic plan and assists TPL’s 25 field offices develop the funding, partnerships and tools for planning, building and protecting trails from community trails to congressionally designated trails. J.T.’s conservation experience includes creating new community forests, conserving large timberland parcels, preserving farmland, protecting trails, and building citizen coalitions in support of conservation projects. He has successfully closed some of the largest land conservation transactions in the Eastern United States.

J.T.’s experience in the conservation sector started as a trail crew leader and winter caretaker with the Appalachian Mountain Club in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He then worked for ten years at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy as the New England Director overseeing 730 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail between Connecticut and Maine. J.T. is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY with a degree in philosophy. When not working on conservation issues, you can find him hiking, trail running, nordic skiing or paddling in the mountains and waters of New England.
