Everglades to Gulf Conservation Area

Florida’s landscapes are known for their diverse and stunning natural beauty. They’re a rich tapestry of ecosystems from the shimmering coastline with its pristine beaches and swaying palm trees to the enchanting Everglades.

But as climate change tightens its grip on communities across the state and fast-paced development continues to knock on nature’s door, we need bold and dynamic initiatives that protect the landscapes we all need to live and thrive—and the Everglades to Gulf Conservation Area is as ambitious as they come.

This new conservation area will span 12 counties and over 4 million acres throughout the heart of Florida. It will protect landscapes necessary to combat climate change, safeguard habitat and wildlife, and increase access to the recreational activities Floridians know and love. It also offers natural opportunities for cultural, traditional, and medicinal uses for Florida’s Indigenous communities.

While this plan will take decades to complete with multiple partners across the state, Trust for Public Land is proud to have worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to establish this new conservation area with the protection of its first several acres.
