A.C. Gonzalez
A.C. Gonzalez is a strategic consultant, who built a strong record in municipal management for more than four decades. He has served as City manager for four Texas cities (Dilley, Carrizo Springs, San Marcos and Dallas). He also has experience in the private sector (management consulting, management software development, and small business operations) and in education (Superintendent for the Austin Independent School District).
During his tenure, he has spearheaded projects that have changed the face of Dallas, including the development of the Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel, management of the Love Field Modernization Program, and negotiations of the Dallas Stars Reunion Arena lease, which brought the professional sports franchise to Dallas. In municipal management, was responsible for as many as approximately 13,000 employees and a budget of just over $3 billion. Dealt with natural disaster challenges, including Ebola, as well as two violent attacks on the Dallas Police Department.
Gonzalez started his career at age 23 as one of the youngest city managers in the U.S. He earned his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1973 and his Master’s in Urban Studies from Trinity University in 1976.
Currently, Gonzalez, besides consulting, serves as a Senior Advisor to the Texas City Management Association and the International City Management Association. Personal passions include family, tennis, skiing, guitar, and traveling the world.
