Throwback Thursday: honoring Huey Johnson
This Throwback Thursday, we’re cuddling up with a great read: the latest issue of Bohemian, featuring an in-depth profile of Huey Johnson, a Trust for Public Land founder .
A pioneering environmentalist, Johnson was a founder of The Trust for Public Land and served as the organization’s first president, from 1972 to 1977. His trailblazing approach to conservation can be credited for helping seed hundreds of land trusts and protect thousands of acres of prized landscapes across the United States.
“All of us working in conservation owe a lot to Huey,” says Ralph Benson, executive director of the Sonoma Land Trust. “He was one of the first people who really thought of conservation beginning in the inner city and extending into the wilderness. The Trust for Public Land was all about land for people. He was a pioneer with that.”
This raw, beautiful landscape in Southern California is home to Indigenous heritage sites, and it provides critical habitat for threatened and endangered species. Urge the administration to safeguard this extraordinary landscape today!
