Colorado celebrates 40 years of conserving land for people
"The Trust for Public Land is the nation's leader in creating urban parks and generating funding for conservation….we were privileged to witness how this innovative organization partnered with health advocates, conservationists, and public partners all across the country to achieve astounding results on the ground. It's great to participate in this celebration of those accomplishments, in Colorado and all across the country."—Kent Thiry & Denise O'Leary
More than 250 friends and supporters joined together in downtown Denver on October 2, 2013, to celebrate The Trust for Public Land's 40 year anniversary—and 32 years of conserving land for people in Colorado. The evening was a low-key, fun affair, co-chaired by Bruce and Marcy Benson and Kent Thiry and Denise O'Leary where guests enjoyed locally-sourced food and cocktails, great conversation, and an amazing view of the city.
The event honored our partnership with the Colorado Health Foundation whose generous support is helping The Trust for Public Land transform underserved metro-Denver communities by creating new parks, renovating underused or neglected parks, and protecting trails and open spaces.
Working together with civic leaders, agencies, donors, and especially the community, we are ensuring that local neighborhoods are resilient, thriving, and healthy for generations to come. To date, we've helped protect nearly 20,000 acres of urban parks , trails and open space in and around Colorado cities—big and small—working towards our goal that everyone lives within a 10-minute walk to a park, garden, or protected open space.
