Gulf of Maine Watershed
The Trust for Public Land is working to conserve coastal resources throughout the Gulf of Maine region before they are lost forever.
Maine’s rocky shores, coastal villages, and working waterfronts define its gulf coast. Wide, sandy beaches, marshes, bays, and miles of rivers anchor the tourism economy in coastal New Hampshire. Together, the four southernmost counties of New Hampshire and Maine account for more than a third of each state’s population.
While each state’s coastal counties are unique, they are similarly vulnerable to the impacts of rapid population growth and poorly planned development. Through our Gulf of Maine Watershed Program, we are working with coastal communities to achieve conservation objectives in water quality, habitat protection, and public waterfront access while supporting industries dependent on natural resources-including tourism and working farms and forests.
