Venison Creek
In partnership with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, TPL protected the Venison Creek property, one of the largest contiguous blocks of privately-owned land within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. At 1,150 acres the property includes 3/4 mile of frontage on Venison Creek and both Fawn and Venison Lake. The site is also part of wolf pack territory and has been identified as important habitat for the dispersal of elk that were reintroduced into Wisconsin in the late 1990s. With the forests of northern Wisconsin under increasing development pressure, the protection of this property ensures that important recreational and habitat lands remain available for public use and enjoyment.
