Soque River
Though only 30 miles long, the Soque River is a vital tributary to the Chattahoochee River. The health of these rivers contributes to drinking water quality for millions of people downstream in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. This cold-water stream is also home to a significant population of brook trout—Georgia's only native trout species—making it a popular destination for fly fishers.
In December 2013, The Trust for Public Land added 21 acres along the Soque River. to the Chattahoochee National Forest, where it will boost public access to the river for trout fisherman and to thousands of acres of wilderness for hikers.
Funding for this purchase came from the Turner Foundation and Trout Unlimited.
