Santa Teresa Wilderness Access
The Santa Teresa Wilderness Area is a majestic landscape of peaks, canyons, and picturesque rock formations, is part of Arizona’s Sky Island region—but access for the public had been blocked by the private lands surrounding this Wilderness. The Trust for Public Land worked with Bureau of Land Management, Arizona Game and Fish, and a local sportsmen group to acquire an adjacent 600-acre ranch and construct a primitive road up to the wilderness boundary. The ranch is now protected by the Bureau of Land Management.
Hunters, backpackers, and horseback riders are among those who will benefit. “The North Santa Teresa Wilderness is a beautiful, well-preserved landmark that has been out of reach for too long. We are thrilled that permanent access is now guaranteed, and people can forever go hunting and backpacking into this remarkable landscape,” said Michael Patrick, Arizona program manager for The Trust for Public Land.
