Hope for Denver’s first park

“As a mother and a grandmother, I was not going to allow another generation to have to go out of their neighborhood to go to a good park.”

– Geraldolyn Horton-Harris, 47-year Five Points resident

Just northeast of downtown Denver, Colorado, Five Points is one of the city’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods. It’s also home to Denver’s first public park, Mestizo-Curtis Park

Today, residents of Five Points are rallying to revive the underutilized park, which takes its name, Mestizo, from the mix of cultures and ethnicities who live nearby.

In the short film above, community member and local grandmother Geraldolyn Horton-Harris shares the story of the park’s troubled past—as well as the plan to turn it into a place that Five Points can be proud of.

Mestizo-Curtis Park is just one of many park transformations The Trust for Public Land is orchestrating in neighborhoods across the country through our Parks for People program. To support our efforts, donate today
