Cold Stream Meadow
While The Trust for Public Land has been conserving land in the Northern Sierra since the mid-1970s, the protection of the 1,174-acres Cold Stream property marks a major success for The Northern Sierra Partnership (NSP). A prime target for vacation home real estate, development of the Cold Stream property would have destroyed sensitive wildlife habitat, degraded the water quality of the stream and the Little Truckee River, limited access to the Mount Lola Trail, one of the most highly used trails in the Tahoe National Forest
In late 2009, we helped acquire Cold Stream meadow, safeguarding more than two miles of the Little Truckee River, a large meadow, and nearly three miles of hiking trails with summit views of surrounding peaks and mountain ranges. And because of Cold Stream's location adjacent to and within the northern reaches of the proposed Castle Peak Wilderness Area, the California Wilderness Coalition has proposed to include the property in the Wilderness Area boundaries.
