Weverton Cliffs

The Weverton Heights section along the Appalachian Trial marks a breathtaking gateway through woodlands, vibrant wildflowers, and thriving wildlife habitat. This landmark site is popular among A.T. hikers and day-trippers alike looking to summit its 500-foot cliffs. Their efforts are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of the Potomac River, Buzzard Rock, and Short Hill Mountain.

Until recently, this section of the Appalachian Trail faced the risk of closure due to a decades-old deed error. Without quick action, this iconic trail’s continuity was in jeopardy, which is why Trust for Public Land partnered with Maryland State Parks to safeguard this vital landscape, including over two miles of trail. This effort reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting the Appalachian Trail—preserving an iconic American treasure so future generations can explore and enjoy its beauty.
